Mombasa County commissioner Evans Achoki has directed all landlords in the county to start acquiring personal details from their tenants.
Speaking at Tononoka Grounds during Madaraka Day celebrations on Saturday, Achoki said that the drug menace at the Coast is encouraged by landlords who rent their properties to drug traffickers.
“We are concerned that drug traffickers operate in houses but landlords do not give information to the police. We now want them to register tenants including keeping numbers of their national identity cards,” he said as reported by Standard.
The County commissioner also urged traders selling machetes to record Identity Card details of all buyers as well as note their phone numbers.
During the same meeting, Likoni MP Mishi Mboko asked coastal leaders to foster unity in the region. She also urged leaders eying the 2022 presidency to unite and support Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho.
Mboko stated that the Coast has to support one of their own in 2022 where they will face stiff competition from several regional leaders. Some of the leaders who are likely to be in the contest are Deputy President William Ruto and former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka.
“Today, we are here to celebrate our territorial independence, let our leaders unite to foster peace and harmony as we look forward to 2022. As coast leaders, let us support one of our own,” said Ms Mboko as quoted by Nation.
