The County Government of Garissa has unveiled an interest-free revolving fund that is aimed at helping the youth, women and the disabled access interest-free loans.
Garissa Governor Ali Korane said the county government has come up with Sh150 million kitty that will be available for women, youth and the disabled persons in the county.
Speaking at a Garissa hotel while launching the Garissa County Revolving Fund, Korane said his administration will increase the fund to benefit many people.
He said that the county government will ensure the funds are distributed equitably across all the wards and sub-counties.
“I guarantee the people of Garissa County that the funds will be accessed at the lowest devolved units of sub-counties, wards and villages and will be guided by the principles of representation, inclusion and accountability,” posted Governor Korane wrote on his Facebook page.
The governor urged them to take advantage of the interest-free loans that are being provided by the county government so as to improve their living standards.
“My government is focused on promoting and enhancing empowerment opportunities for the sizeable population of youth and women by expanding access to finances, generating self-employment and reducing the overall poverty rates amongst our communities,” he added.
Korane further said that the fund will also be sued in training the youth on business and enterprise management.
He also urged eligible residents with viable entrepreneurial ideas and ventures including existing and fresh start-ups to apply for the fund.
