Deputy President William Ruto and Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen have heaped praised on Kenya’s Harambee Stars following their 3-2 victory against Tanzania’s Taifa Stars.

 Ruto, who has a great passion for football said that the team had made the nation proud.  

The team came from behind twice to seal the historic victory after Kashiwa Reysol’s Michael Olunga scored a brace and Johana Omollo saw the back of the net once. 

“Hearty congratulations to #HarambeeStars for beating Tanzania 3-2 and putting Kenya in contention for qualifying for the round of 16 at the #AFCON2019. All the best as you prepare for the Senegal decider. Well in,” Ruto said in a tweet.

On his part, Murkomen said that the team had shown the spirit of a fighter on the pitch even when the opponents proved to be a hard nut to crack.

"Congratulations  Harambee stars for making us proud. With a little faith and determination you can beat Senegal and make history. Believe in yourselves folks because we believe in you.," he tweeted.

Harambee Stars hopes of progressing to the next stage have risen following the win. The national team under Coach Sebastian Migne will be facing Senegal in the last match of Group. The team lost its first match 2-0 against Algeria.
