The former Prime Minister, who co-founded the initiative alongside President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2018, has been very vocal about the BBI, terming it the silver bullet against Kenya's problems.

But supporters of the DP are claiming that Raila and his allies have hijacked the push and are crafting it into a weapon to bar the DP from achieving his 2022 presidential ambition.

Aldai MP Cornelly Serem on Sunday told the Star that Raila, instead of addressing the contents of the report, is using it to fight the DP, with the intention of scuttling his ambitions.

"Instead of people addressing the contents of BBI and preaching peace, it has turned out to be a political fight against one individual,” he said.

Similar remarks were made by Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei, who claimed that the proposals being made by Raila and team are aimed at ensuring that Ruto doesn't become president.

The two claimed that ODM is also keen on turning the BBI into a political vehicle, aboard which it seeks to approach the 2022 polls.

Already, the DP has told off the ODM brigade against turning the ongoing BBI forums into anti- Ruto functions, where they spend most of their time on the podium attacking him.
