On Tuesday, Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula appeared on Citizen TV and expressed his stand regarding the future of the National Super Alliance (NASA).
During the interview, Wetangula divulged that his NASA co-principal Raila Odinga was the one to blame for the downfall of the coalition. According to him, Raila was imposing 'dictatorial' decisions to the other co-principals just as he does at his Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.
The former Senate minority leader further accused Raila of being the mastermind of rocking and 'killing' political parties and alliances in the country. In his assertion, Raila joined KANU and rocked it, joined NARC and rocked it, joined CORD and killed it to have another presidential attempt and is now disrupting the existence of NASA.
With this new development, one would wonder why he never spoke up when Raila was imposing dictatorial tendencies to the NASA coalition leadership.
The handshake between Raila and President Uhuru Kenyatta has been the main issue in NASA. It is because of the handshake that the country is experiencing political calmness.
Thus, Wetangula is being unfair to Raila by blaming him for every bad thing that is happening to the NASA coalition. Raila could not have single handedly delivered votes to NASA.
In fact, Ford-Kenya party failed to deliver even in Bungoma county which is Wetangula's perceived stronghold. Jubilee party, managed to get four parliamentary seats.
What is killing NASA is the existence of four coalition leaders who must have their side of the bargain upheld. As a co-principal, Wetangula himself would also want some decisions made according to his view.
For longevity, NASA should have gone the Jubilee way of dissolving all the parties and forming one major political outfit. Similarly, the coalition should not have had four leaders because all of them want to have their way upheld.
If the coalition dissolves, Wetangula will be among the reasons since he failed to help identify and rectify problems early enough.
