The outspoken county boss denied the allegations which were made by his Nairobi counterpart Mike Sonko last week.

Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV's JKL show on Wednesday evening, Waititu noted that he has never smoked bhang, adding that he is a respectable man who doesn't consume any type of drugs.

He criticised Sonko for making such remarks, arguing that the Nairobi county boss should stop being a joker and take his work seriously.

"In fact, if such utterances came from someone else, I could have gone to court over defamation. But since they came from Sonko...I know why he said it. I also don't take him seriously," said Waititu.

"It is high time that he became serious. He's a leader now and he should not be a joker anymore," he added.

He further hit out at Sonko over his tendency of recording his phone calls, arguing that he (Sonko) has no regard for anybody and shouldn't.let power get into his head.

"Just the other day he was abusing somebody who can be like his father and putting it on the phone so that everybody can hear," said Waititu.

This comes after Sonko last week claimed that he used to smoke bhang with Waititu during their tenure as MPs.

"When we were MPs we used to smoke bhang with Waititu in some toilet there. He used to hide bhang in his socks. Mimi niliwacha lakini yeye anavuta bangi na ni Gavana (I quit smoking but Waititu has not stopped despite being a governor)," said Sonko.

The remarks were condemned by a section of leaders including Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria and Kiambu politician Gladys Chania who called for action to be taken against the two governors.
