Taita Taveta County Governor Granton Samboja on Saturday joined his party leadership for a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting at the party's Karen headquarters in Nairobi.
Samboja's presence at the meeting dismisses reports that he was headed to the Jubilee Party, days after he was elected through the Wiper Democratic Movement.
Shortly after the August 8, 2017 general election, Samboja declared his support for the Jubilee government, saying he would work with President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto for the sake of residents of the coastal county.
He kept off Wiper Democratic Movement party functions until on Saturday, when he appeared publicly, months after his party leader Kalonzo Musyoka declared support for the handshake between Opposition leader Raila Odinga and Kenyatta.
During the NEC meeting at Wiper Democratic Movement House Samboja, a first-time governor, was accompanied by his Deputy Majala Mlagui and Wundanyi MP Danson Mwashako.
The meeting was chaired by party chairman Makueni Governor Prof Kivutha Kibwana and attended by Kalonzo Musyoka.
Others present included Deputy Party leader Shakila Abdallah (Lamu) and Senator Mutula Kilonzo (Makueni), Wavinya Ndeti (Machakos).
