This comes at a time when Deputy President William Ruto has been seen to bask in the admiration and support of a splinter Jubilee Party group dubbed  'Tangatanga'.

Koigi now says that Uhuru could be the man behind the rival Kieleweke faction, which seems to be in an active fight with Tangatanga.

He noted that some financial benefits might be involved in both sides, claiming that Uhuru might end up financially beaten by the time the nation reaches the 2022 polls.

"These groups, each is seeking for itself, even Ruto's. Uhuru, if not careful, will get to 2022 when drained (Makundi haya, kila kundi kinajitafutia, hata wa Ruto. Uhuru asipochunga atafika 2022 kama ameishiwa)," he said.

The former Nakuru senatorial aspirant made the remarks during an interview on Sauti Ya Mwananchi's Kero Nyeti radio show on Wednesday morning.

He added that some of the team members are not sincere in their affiliations, but are only paying back to the persons behind their 2017 wins.

"They are not fighting a free fight, some are paying debts (Hawapigani vita vya bure)," he added.

Kieleweke which is largely made up of lawmakers from Uhuru's Mt Kenya region has with time managed to attract politicians allowed to the opposition.

A section of Mt Kenya MPs has also teamed up with their Rift Valley counterparts and others from across the nation to make up Tangatanga, alongside former opposition politicians.
