The funeral of famous Mt Elgon businessman Peter Zablon turned chaotic when the area MP was engaged in a fistfight with his rival, it has now emerged.
Mt Elgon legislator Fred Kapondi abandoned his speech and descended on a supporter to Evans Kiprotich, a local politician aiming to unseat the veteran politician, reports the Nation in a viral video.
Trouble started when Masuti Chemasuet, a staunch supporter of Kiprotich, started taking photos of Mr Kapondi, who was addressing mourners at that time.
Mr Kapondi's supporters then descended on him, confiscating the phones and even cracking them in anger.
"You can't just start taking photos without my consent. The funny thing is, it is these photos they use on social media to taint my name," Kapondi is heard saying.
But Chemasuet, in an interview with the Nation, accused Mr Kapondi supporters of starting chaos, adding that the deceased was his in-law.
"I have never had issues with the MP. I came to mourn the deceased because he's a relative. Then some people confiscated my phone and even cracked it," he said.
Mr Kapondi is a veteran politician and was largely implicated in Mt Elgon clashes that saw KDF involved in countering the defunct Sabaout Land Defense Forces.
Traditionally, he was a rival to Mr John Serut, and the two are not strangers to public confrontations and fistfights throughout their political career
