Pioneer Kieleweke legislator Ngunjiri Wambugu has slammed Deputy President William Ruto's defense to President Uhuru Kenyatta over fake gold scandal, claiming that the Head of State doesn't need it.
At Endebess on Saturday, Ruto lashed at opposition team, accusing it of dragging President Uhuru Kenyatta into fake gold scandal. He claimed that opposition leader Raila Odinga was aware of the scam.
“I tell our brothers in the opposition not to import their bad habits to Jubilee; they should shun engaging in dirty deals, corruption and coning others,” said the Deputy President.
A leaked audio purportedly of Senator Moses Wetangula and a middle man from Dubai, saw Mr Odinga and Kenyatta dragged into the scandal in which Saudi Royal lost over Sh400 million.
But according to the Nyeri Town MP, Dr Ruto is not justified to defend President Uhuru Kenyatta 'since it's the Head of State who asked for investigations' in the first place.
"TangaTanga should stop diversionary tactics. It is President Kenyatta who called for an investigation into the gold saga so the DP & his allies should stop purporting to defend the President on this issue. Uhuru does not need their protection. Let them continue defending Governor Waititu & all those others suspected of corruption," he wrote.
Already, over 15 people have been arrested in connection with the scandal. DCI George Kinoti said Senator Moses Wetangula and businessman Zaheer Jhanda are persons of interest in the saga.
Mr Jhanda on Friday dismissed claims that Raila and Matiang'i were part of the deal, adding that he had been approached by four Rift Valley MPs to implicate them in the scam, a request he declined.
