Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina now wants the nation's attention shifted to the Sh40 coin which depicts former President Mwai Kibaki's image.
This comes at a time when the debate is heating regarding the newly introduced currency notes, which have an image of founding father Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.
A section of leaders has questioned the same, arguing that the new constitution dictates against that, and have been pushing for the removal of the image from the money.
Leaders from Ole Kina's Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party have also been divided on the issue, some opposing and supporting it in equal measure before the party chair John Mbadi announced that they will back the notes.
But the Senator now wants the Central Bank of Kenya to come out clean on whether the coin will remain in its current state or if it too will experience some changes.
He termed it questionable that the currency will have the portraits of two former presidents, and wants CBK governor Patrick Njoroge to explain how he intends to handle the matter.
"What happens to the Sh40 coin? The Governor of the central bank never spoke about it? So as it appears the 1000 Note will have Kenyatta's image and the Ksh 40 coin will have Kibaki’s sema kujipanga!" he tweeted, Tuesday.
