Life as a wife or a husband of a long-distance truck driver is not for the weak or faint-hearted.
Many ladies in Ukambani try so hard not to marry the drivers since they are associated with many infidelity issues.
Take for example the truck drivers involved with sex workers at weighbridge in Mlolongo and Makutano Chumvi.
Here are some of the reasons women fear marrying truck drivers;
1. Lonliness
Some women say that they get lonely when their partner is gone and leave them alone for days, weeks or even months.
"There is a part in a heart that your husband or lover occupies that even friends can't occupy," says Mario Mwende from Kathiani.
2. Sex
A majority of the ladies say that its hard for a truck driver to satisfy you sexually since he's away most of the time.
"Sex plays a very vital role in relationships. Everyone needs sex and it's very hard to cope in marriage without good sex," says Carol Mueni, a vegetable vendor in Machakos.
3. Trust issues
Many women have a problem with personal and emotional security. Its hard to trust their husbands or fiancée when they are miles away.
"Some of us have unreasonable jealousy and we get lonely easily. It's not easy to trust these men of today especially when a man goes away for days or even months," notes Purity Muli from Machakos town.
She adds that many people associate truck drivers with bad manners and can have sex even in their lorries.
4. Home emergencies
"Life is full of surprises and many Kamba women feel that they are not safe alone especially during emergencies like sickness, fire among others," says Kalekye Makau.
However, if you pick a good man/wife, if you always respect them and what they do and respect your marriage and improve your communication you will find that you have the most respectful person in the whole world.
