The student identified as Erick Kang'ethe was pursuing a course in computer engineering.

David C. Vaillancourt; the University of Massachusetts associate Vice Chancellor, confirmed the death of Kang'ethe and conveyed his condolences on behalf of the university.

“We extend our sincere condolences to Erick’s family and friends,” he said in a statement.

It was not immediately clear what caused Kang'ethe's death.

Law enforcement agencies in the US have launched investigations into the circumstances that lead to the death of the Kenyan native.

This is not the first time a Kenyan student has been reported to have died in the United States of America

Sometime this year, another student Jelagat Borus was found dead at the Stanford University hostels.

Borus emerged top in the 2013 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.
