Peter Tabichi, the Nyamira teacher who thrilled the world early this year after winning global teaching award, was on Tuesday honoured by the US Congress.
Earlier, Brother Tabichi had made and held talks with US President Donald Trump at White House in Washington DC, a move that thrilled many of his constituents back home.
And the US Congress honoured Mr Tabichi, allowing him to cite the Franciscan prayers, moments before the assembly started transacting businesses.
"Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hate, let me sow love, where there is injury, pardon. Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope. Where there is darkness, light.Where there is sadness, joy.
"Devine master to be understood, to understand. To be loved, as to love. It's in pardoning that we are pardoned. That it's in dying we get eternal life. We pray for peace in the world," he said.
Thereafter, Brother Tabichi hailed the Congress for giving him a lifetime opportunity to open the session with prayers, terming it a 'privilege and an honour'.
"It was a great privilege and honour to open the US Congress with the Franciscan prayer for peace at the Capitol, Washington DC. What a great day! God bless us all," he added.
This week, Tabichi will become the first professional to address United Nations general assembly which will be graced by over 150 head of states and governments.
At home in Kemera, the county government of Nyamira held a grand reception for him after winning Sh100 million, beating 10 others.
He promised to uplift the lives of poor children, adding that environmental conservation was part of his campaigns in a bid to challenge global warming.
