Deputy President William Ruto has announced the government's plans to expand the Nakuru-Nairobi highway as a way of easing congestion within Nakuru.
Speaking in Subukia, Nakuru County on Saturday, the DP said the tendering process for the construction of the same has began.
He said plans are in place to create a four-lane dual carriageway stretching from Nairobi to Mau Summit, with the works expected to begin before end of the year.
"The four-lane dual carriageway from Nairobi to Mau Summit work will start before the end of the year," said the DP.
He added that plans are also in place to realize the planned construction of an industrial park in Naivasha within the same county.
He pledged that the government is also in the process of implementing a number of water projects by constructing several dams, including the stalled Sh34 billion Itare dam.
To ensure that Gilgil and Naivasha towns get enough water supply, Ruto announced that the construction of Malewa will begin before the end of the year.
"Itare dam is a national project and it will be completed since we have resolved some of the problems affecting it,” said the DP.
