The National Police Service Commission (NPSC) has released names of police officers who were filmed assaulting a Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) student.
Addressing the media on Wednesday, NPSC Chairman Eliud Kinuthia said the commission has managed to identify three out of the four officers who were filmed assaulting the student.
The three are police constables; George Wathania, Kibet Chemipei and Boniface Muthama.
“The identification of the 4th police officer is delaying because, it is a process, and the angle of the image on what is happening needs assurance and should be right,” Kinuthia said as quoted by Citizen TV.
According to Kinuthia, the officers face three possible punishments once investigations are concluded.
"The ultimate or the climax of these sanctions are three which then the commission must be able to determine and ratify. One, the punishment preferred could be involving the reduction in rank, that is a possibility of the outcome of the investigation.
"The other one could be involving dismissal from the service, that is also a possible outcome. And the other one could be the ultimate removal from the service," Kinuthia said.
