Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday when MPs approved the new police boss, Duale said the drug lords have ruined the lives of youth,  causing them to engage in social evils.

"The new inspector general of police must deal with the drug lords in Kisauni," he said.

The Coast region has been grappling with the drug menace for decades, with cases of youth engaging in the illegal activity being on the rise despite the government's efforts to contain it.

He, at the same time, asked the new IG to end cases of extrajudicial killings in the country.

The vocal Garissa Township MP noted that the society has been turning against the police due to the insincerity of the officers in regards to the extrajudicial killings that have been witnessed in the country in the past.

He said police should strive to protect citizens from attacks, giving an example of the recent killings of watchmen in Vihiga and Kakamega counties.

"Look at the killings of Vihiga and Kakamega involving watchmen losing lives yet the police live among the people," said Duale.
