Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has refuted handshake claims with Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka days after a coincidental meeting between them.
Speaking during an interview at Milele FM on Thursday, Mutua said they only met at the wedding of Robert Kivutha, son of Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana and agreed to conduct an official meeting later.
He acknowledged Kalonzo as an experienced leader stating the only difference between them is political ideologies.
Mutua said leaders must sit and talk.
“Hatujafanya handshake, sisi tulikutana kwenye harusi ya ndoa ya Kijana wa Kibwana na tukaongea na tukasema tutaongea. Sisi hatuna uhasama wowote na mimi namheshimu sana Kalonzo Musyoka yeye ni kingozi kwa muda. Sisi shida yetu tu ni kwamba siaisa zetu ni tofauti na lazima viongozi wakae chini [There was no handshake between us, we just met at the wedding of Kibwana’s son and agreed to talk. We have no enmity and I respect Kalonzo Musyoka as a leader. The only problem between us is political differences and we must sit down and talk],” Mutua said.
The Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader said he supports the building bridges initiatives in the country, hence ready to sit down with any wiling leader and work together.
“Mimi ninaunga mkono suluhisho ambazo zinaendelea hapa nchini na niko tayari kukaa chini na viongozi wote kama wako tayari tuweze kuongea na kuenda mbele [I support the solutions going on in the country, I am ready to sit and have a talk with any willing leader],” Mutua said.
