A section of politicians allied to DP William Ruto are plotting to impeach Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i, ODM Chairman John Mbadi has claimed.
Over the weekend, politicians allied to Ruto asked Matiang'i to step down over gold scandal, with Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa questioning the presence of GSU officers at the house where fake gold was reportedly stored.
In a press conference on Monday, Mbadi said the MPs have nothing against Raila Odinga, adding that they were cleverly introducing the former premier's name as a way of preparing to impeach the CS.
"They have nothing against Raila. Their main aim is to impeach Dr Matiang'i. They are busy finding a way of bringing him down. We know their moves," said Mbadi.
On Sunday, several Gusii leaders defended Dr Matiang'i over the scam, claiming that cartels were after spoiling his reputation given his track record in transformation agenda.
"We will not allow them to drag his name. Let them politick elsewhere and leave Matiang'i alone. He's busy serving the nation when they are plotting for 2022," said former FKF President Sam Nyamweya.
Chief suspect in the scandal Zaheer Jhanda, who is also a politician at Gusii, on Saturday claimed that some MPs from Rift Valley had approached him to implicate Matiang'i in the scandal.
