But what really happens to your body when you decide to eat nothing for seven straight days?

Well then, the answer is here. Your body is likely to benefit from this practice, but at the same time, the worst might happen.

The following things might happen to your body as a result of fasting for a week:

1. Depletion of glycogen

The body will break down all the stored glycogen to yield energy for the metabolic processes.

When no more food is taken, your mood will significantly change, and you will be hungrier.

2. Ketosis

This is good news for those fasting to lose extra weight.

The body is likely to embark on breaking down the stored fat to yield energy for the working of the cells.

However, the brain turns to ketone bodies for energy since it cannot use the energy from fats.

After a period of about four days, with the continued formation of ketone bodies, your body is likely to develop a condition called acidosis due to the lowering of the blood pH. Acidosis is a very deadly condition.

3. Your body will eat itself

Your body then tries to find anything it can convert into energy even when all other energy resources such as glycogen have been depleted.

If you continue to starve yourself, the body might start converting muscles and bones into energy.
