I love memes. Everyone should have a meme dealer. On my death bed, I want my meme dealer by the bedside, showing me all the memes we laughed at, and then at the end, he shall say I died the way I wanted – laughing.

Is there a story unfolding in your community? Let Hivisasa know

Why am I talking about memes? Don’t worry. There’s one I particularly loved that said: life is too short, spend as much time online arguing with strangers about politics and stuff you may know little about.

Currently in Kalenjin land, the issue of initiation of boys happening this year has been thrown into limbo, by the flowering of setyot. A section of elders dressed in suits and ties however, believe that it should go on.

On the interwebs, we tore into each other, some saying that I should have my brain circumcised. I am learned man, though and I believe that that ceremony should not be held by any means.

The reason is quite simple. We must adhere to traditions just like the way we adhere to religion. For sure no one knows whether heaven exists or not. It derives its relevance from the our belief in it.

Even then, this religion is an importation of people’s culture, and seemingly imposed on us. We had our own god, and our own traditions that kept out fathers before us safe from danger. We poured libations to appease our ancestors.

None of that happens today, and we are left with only the initiation of boys. The initiations for girls has since been decided by the whites that it’s barbaric.

Well, as the world advances towards a homogenous culture, thereby creating markets for western products, let us cling to whatever tradition we have left.

The westerners maybe envious of our traditions but they won’t tell us because they still want to appear superior to our race. They only got a tradition, known as the American dream. And if you have read, it is something that turns people into robots.

We still have a rich culture, as Kalenjins and Africans at large. It would be painful if we let go of whatever is left after imperialism got into our heads.
