West Pokot Governor John Lonyangapuo on Monday stormed the home of one of the nurses in the county and fired her.
In a Video shared by Daily Nation, the governor said that he is not ready to tolerate absentee government officials in his leadership.
He noted that the nurse had developed the habit of missing at her place of work, adding that he will not take it lightly anymore. The county boss reminded other nurses that they must be at their work station whenever they are needed or else he will also fire them.
“'This person is behaving like a primary school teacher who goes home over the weekend, forgetting that sickness does not know weekends. We pay them over Ksh 100,000 per month. Well too bad, job lost immediately,” he said.
He explained that the county government had ensured that the hospitals have drugs but it is unfortunate that the nurses can decided to abscond duties.
"Last week we brought in a lot of medicine. KEMSA delivered our medicine that we required four lorries. There is a lot of work and even if you do not have drugs is this your work station. I gave them a water tank two years ago look at it, 10000 liter water tank and they are unable to fix it themselves," he added.
