Ndii, who was Raila's strategist in the 2017 presidential election, mocked the followers of the former prime minister and described their behaviour as 'fascinating'.

He observed when he was criticising Jubilee leadership of President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto they cheered him, but turned against him when dropped their leader.

In a tweet on Monday, the economist complained the supporters have been harassing him for slamming Raila for what he called 'brazen opportunism'.

"Our political groupies are fascinating. Raila groupies cheered as we castigated Uhuruto. Same Uhuru has become a statesman, mweupe kama pamba, no NYS, Eurobond or health scandal. I call out Raila for brazen opportunism and they are hurling insults. If shoe fits, you wear it," he tweeted.

Ndii had in the past said he abandoned the ODM boss after he 'went to bed with the enemy' in reference to his handshake with Uhuru.

Over the weekend, he predicted the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) will be the end of Raila's political career of over four decades.

"Dynasties must finish Ruto—its a do or die. And it's looking like #BBIFraud will finish Raila. Both eventualities would be good for the country. The last thing we need is a toxic 2022 election between the two," he said.

Vocal activist Hilda Muthesi, a Raila diehard supporter, urged Ndii instead of blasting the ODM boss through social media, to approach him privately and save himself from insults from his supporters.

"Don't call out Raila.. go meet him, tell him what you think and how you feel as a strategist. When my friend Passaris getting out of control, I don't insult online. I give her a call..we chat," Muthesi tweeted.
