On Wednesday, Dr Ruto chose to visit Jonathan's home in Kabimoi, with sources within Moi family claiming that he was denied access to Kabarak, a claim dismissed by his aide David Mugonyi.

"We need to educate our people on the importance of visiting hospitals for cancer screening because if detected in the early stages, it can be successfully treated," the DP said.

Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka toured Kabarak on Thursday afternoon, hours after Chief Justice David Maraga had left. Mr Musyoka last toured Kabarak in November last year following the request by Moi, who had asked him to visit Kabarak so that he condoles with him in person following the death of Kalonzo's father.

On Thursday, Mr Musyoka was in the company of Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua, COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli who arrived few minutes later and former presidential aspirant Peter Kenneth.

President Uhuru Kenyatta visited Kabarak on Monday. Mr Musyoka becomes the latest high ranking official to condole with Moi at Kabarak. After his departure, Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui also visited the octogenerian.

Early this week, the family of Moi said that he may not meet mourners but did not given reasons to their statement. Jonathan died last week months after being diagnosed with cancer.

"The family with heavy hearts wishes to inform all our friends that our patriarch Mzee Moi may not be able to personally receive those wishing to offer their condolence. This inevitable stand does not in any way lessen our gratitude dear friends. Please understand us," the statement said.

The unfolding events could put both Moi and DP William Ruto on spotlight due to the latter's position in government. However, Dr Ruto has been at loggerheads with Gideon Moi over 2022 polls.

Mr Musyoka's long journey in political career is highly credited to Mzee Daniel Moi. The octogenerian elevated his to ministerial boss, serving in education and Foreign Affairs for a long time until 2002.
