Rarieda Member of Parliament Otiende Amollo has vowed to go against the wish of his Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party regarding the petrol price increment debate.
The party on Tuesday pledged support of the additional 8 per cent tax as has been proposed by President Uhuru Kenyatta, in a meeting that was snubbed by some members.
In a tweet on Wednesday, Amollo vowed to vote against the proposal in a special National Assembly sitting set for Thursday, also proposing other government initiatives that should be axed.
Otiende proposed the reconsideration of Constituency Development Fund (CDF), the excess number of Cabinet Secretaries (CSs), Chief Administrative Secretaries (CASs)and Principal Secretaries (PSs) as another method of saving more money for more beneficial initiatives.
‘’Good People, many have asked if my stand on VAT has changed, NO it hasn’t. I will Vote Against imposition of 8% on Petroleum Products. I believe that to be right, then we engage on what else needs to go, including CDF, CASs, NYS, Big 4 & Others,’’ he said.
The proposal has as well been opposed by a section of lawmakers hailing from Uhuru’s Jubilee Party side, most of whom have observed that Kenyans are already suffering under tough living conditions.
This comes after Uhuru's rejection of the National Assembly's amendment to postpone the implementation of the tax for 2 more years.
