Kenya’s long-distance runner Simon Cheprot has warmed the hearts of many after his photos helping a competitor who collapsed surfaced online.
Cheprot in the photos which are doing rounds online is seen helping his competitor, a Kenyan colleague, Kenneth Kipkemoi, after he collapsed during the race.
Cheprot stunned many when he stopped during the Okpekpe International 10 km Road Race that took place in Edo State of Nigeria on Saturday, May 25.
He was about to cross the finish line when he noticed Kipkemoi collapsing and decided to stop and help him cross the finish line.
In the photos that have gone viral, the athlete lifted his Kenyan colleague up and dragged him to the finish line before summoning medics.
Cheprot was the overall winner of the 2016 Okpekpe 10KM race and in 2018, he finished second.
He gave up his ambition of winning the title once more and he finished 12th in Saturday's race.
