The former Starehe parliamentary aspirant was on Tuesday spotted at the Dusit D2 terror scene dressed in military regalia and armed with an automatic rifle.

But speaking on Wednesday morning, Sakaja questioned the move, terming it unfortunate coming from a leader.

"Let people not take jokes to such places. We are having a very serious operation going on at the terror scene. Let politicians keep off and not use it as a means of political elevation," he said.

Sakaja was speaking in an interview on Radio Citizen's Kikao Cha Taifa.

He faulted the Firearms Licencing Board for allowing a civilian to handle a gun of such nature.

According to the Senator, a former Chair of the board, it is against the law for non-security Kenyans to be in possession of automated firearms.

"These kinds of guns should not be in the hands of civilians. The law doesn't allow civilians to handle automatic weapons," he added.

Mbogo vied on the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket before losing to Charles Njagua Kanyi alias Jaguar.

Somali based terror organization Al Shabaab has since claimed responsibility of the attack.
