A boat carrying six fishermen capsized at Tezali, off Pate Island in Lamu.
The fishermen were rescued by their colleagues following the scary incident.
Confirming the incident, Kenya Maritime Authority (KMA) director-general George Okong’o said that the accident took place on Monday.
He noted that it took the efforts of different groups to rescue the survivors from the boat after the scare. The boat was on a fishing expedition before the incident occurred.
The accident has been attributed to the strong winds which were blowing from one corner of the Indian ocean to another before things fell out of control for the fishermen.
Manda Bay resort worked hand-in-hand with marine police officers, KMA personnel, local fishermen to rescue men from the scene of the incident.
The survivors were identified as Ali Jangwa, Ismail Ali, Ali Kesi, Hussein Sadi, Aboud, and Abubakar.
Omar Shamina, a village headman, said that the operational team had not recovered the boat because of the strong winds blowing in the region. He said that the officials behind the operations will have to wait longer before they can recover the same.
“The six fishermen are safely resting in Shanga village. The boat could not, however, be recovered because of the bad weather,” said Shamina, as quoted by Standard.
