Bahati Member of Parliament Kimani Ngunjiri has responded after President Uhuru Kenyatta attacked him when he toured his constituency on Tuesday.
Speaking at Maili Sita, Uhuru accused the vocal MP of insulting him through the media and asked him to leave him alone and concentrate on his mandate as a legislator.
"There is one man who has made it a habit to insult me every day. I decided to keep quiet and observe him until the day I would come to Bahati. I am here to find out whether it is you (residents) who send him to hurl insults at me," he said.
Reacting to the remarks, Ngunjiri, who was in the President's convey but did not get a chance to speak, said it was unfair for Uhuru to attack him in his backyard, without giving him a chance to defend himself.
"I heard everything he said about me and my concern is whether it was right for the president to come all the way from Nairobi to attack me,” he said as quoted by Standard.
Ngunjiri, a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto and fierce critic of Uhuru's handshake with ODM leader Raila Odinga, said he was too junior for the Head of State to pick a war with him.
The vocal legislator said he was not afraid that Uhuru's attack would make him unpopular in his constituency, claiming his support among residents was intact.
"I was behind him all along and I think that the president stooped too low to come and attack me. The president is of the league of fellow presidents like Museveni and other international leaders and not me. I am not scared. I still have my support on the ground,” Ngunjiri said.
