Giant drinks manufacturer Coca-Cola will be back in court after a Busia court summoned 10 witnesses to testify next month in a case that has taken years to be ruled.
In the suit, 58 people accuse Coca-Cola of selling contaminated drinks nine years ago.
“Whereas your attendance is required to give evidence as per Court Order in the above suit, you are hereby required personally to appear before this court on November 18, 2019, in the forenoon to produce laboratory analysis results ..,” the letter read in part.
High Court judge Kiarie Waweru is optimistic that the case will be determined before the end of this year.
Earlier, Coca-Cola had requested the affected Funyula residents to have the case settled out of court and each get compensation worth Sh45,000 each but they declined the offer.
According to Business Daily, petitioners Richard Sikudi, Stephen Serulo and Zablon Barasa sued the Atlanta-based entity, its Africa subsidiaries (Coca- Cola Central, East and West) and local agent Equator Bottlers on behalf of 55 others.
They presented medical reports as part of the evidence. The reports indicated that they received treatment related to vomiting, acute abdominal pain, nausea and diarrhoea after consuming Coca-Cola products.
