Children living in Mau forest will now have to move out following the ruling by Environment and Lands court, it has now emerged.
35 lawyers mainly from the Kalenjin community had moved to court seeking to block the evictions on the pretext that kicking the children out of Mau would be gross violation of their rights.
But now, the team will have to move to drawing board after Justice Mohammed Kullow on Friday said that the court has no jurisdiction to hear the case.
With few days remaining before the deadline, everyone will be required to move out of Mau, despite politics surrounding the whole eviction process.
Rift Valley Regional Coordinator George Natembeya recently said that a good number of people had honoured the goverment's order to leave.
"Almost everyone has now moved their moveables and are now working on removing construction materials, including timber and iron sheets. So far 3,366 households have moved out while more than 1,400 have demolished their houses,” he said.
The Regional Commissioner said those who will not have moved out voluntarily will be forced out.
“There is only one option for those who will not have left voluntarily by end of this month,” he said.
