The national conference of bishops, pastors, and national prayer committee has called on political leaders to stop the debate on 2022 succession politics.
Addressing media in Nakuru after holding a meeting in preparation for the prayer week from July 30 to August 5 2018, at Afraha Stadium, the church leaders said 2022 politics will put the country into an election mood.
Led by Apostle John Kimani William of the Mission to the Body of Christ International (MBCI), the religious leaders also called on Kenyans to pray for the country.
“Ours is to pray for the nation and ensure that there is a conducive environment and to the politicians, it’s not a time for 2022 politics. The vices we see happening in Kenya talk of corruption, the unrest in schools also demands that we pray for the nation,” said Apostle Kimani.
Similar sentiments were echoed by Bishop Jesse Ireri from Nairobi who is also the chairman, National Prayer Week and Conference.
Bishop Ireri added that prayers are paramount in addressing the challenges facing the nation.
“As religious leaders, ours is not about 2022 politics but rather praying for a conducive environment that will see all sectors succeed for prayer and peace are paramount than even political leadership,” Bishop Ireri said.
