A staff at the county government of Nakuru has lamented that they were forced to attend the Jamhuri Day celebrations.
The employee, who preferred anonymity for fear of victimization, wondered why the county secretary was forcing staff to attend the function.
“I am still wondering whether the constitution makes it mandatory for civil servants to attend national holidays. Why was I forced to attend Jamhuri at Afraha? These are some of the issues that the governor should be made aware of,” the employee said.
To back up the claims, the employee gave us a memo that was reportedly sent by the county secretary and head of public service Benjamin Njoroge demanding staff attend the function.
“You are requested to accompany H.E the Governor during the Jamhuri Day Celebrations at Afraha Stadium beginning at 10.00am. Your staff should also attend the function. Any absenteeism without good reason will not be tolerated,” the memo, addressed to county executive members, chief officers and board directors says.
Our efforts to reach the county secretary for a comment on the same were futile.
