Onyonka argued that despite the fact that Kisii and Nyamira counties are perceived to be opposition strongholds, the ruling party garnered many votes.

He said the Jubilee government should also extend development in the Gusii region.

The lawmaker joined the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) debate and said its construction should also extend to the Gusii region.

"Jubilee government led by President Uhuru Kenyatta should not sideline the Gusii community because they voted for the government. SGR construction to Kisumu should pass through Gusii region for inclusion purposes," Onyonka said.

Speaking at Bobaracho on Wednesday, the Ford Kenya lawmaker maintained that the Gusii community must also benefit from the handshake between President Uhuru and NASA leader Raila Odinga.

He appealed to elected leaders to prioritized development and not filling up their stomachs.

"Leaders from the region need to be awake to ensure development is realized the same way other regions are being developed," said the legislator.
