The body of a form three student was on Wednesday found dangling from the ceiling of his parents’ house in Kawanga village, Homa Bay County.
The 16-year old boy who schools at Alara Mixed Secondary School is alleged to have been sent home for school fees on Tuesday.
According to the area Assistant Chief James Adika, the parents gave the student the required school fees on Wednesday morning before leaving for the farm and had hoped that their son would leave for school later on.
It, therefore, came as a shock when they received the news of their son’s death.
It is believed the deceased hanged himself with a rope after his parents went to the farm, Citizen Digital has reported.
It is not yet known what exactly pushed the teenager to commit suicide.
The chief noted that investigations into the incident have commenced.
The body of the deceased was taken to Homa Bay County Teaching and Referal Hospital Mortuary.
This comes at a time when cases of suicides are on the rise in the country. This year has seen an increased rate of suicidal incidences sparking a discussion around mental illness and depression among Kenyan netizens.
