Business tycoon Ali Punjani’s wife has been arrested. The arrest comes after detectives from the office of the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) raided his home in Nyali after he was listed among the most wanted drug lords.
Punjani has been linked to the suspected drug baron’s from the Akasha’s family.
The wife of the suspect was arrested alongside two other foreigners from Nepal and India.
The officers accessed the house of the tycoon after waiting for long hours after they were given a search warrant to the home of the businessman.
Confirming the arrest, Mombasa Police Commander Johnstone Ipara said that the crackdown will continue after the increased incidents of crime in the region.
Ipara said that the officers will only leave the place after they have ascertained that there are no drugs in the place.
“We will not leave until we search this house top to bottom and establish that there are no drug substances inside,” said Mr. Ipara.
The Mombasa-based businessman has been asked to present himself after the issuance of the arrest warrant against him. The tycoon is currently in India where he traveled for treatment.
Interior CS Fred Matiang’i has said that the government will ensure drug trafficking is a thing of the past.
