Property worth millions was on Saturday lost in Ndhiwa, Homa Bay County after a fire razed down a market in the area.
Efforts by traders to salvage their property proved futile after the fire became uncontrollable.
Speaking at the scene of the incident, Kanyamwa Kosewe MCA Nicholas Awaka said the traders watch desperately as the fire brought down their properties.
The entire market building went up in flames leaving the traders in deep shock.
Owaka asked the county government to ensure it puts in place the right measures to ensure firefighting is undertaken in time.
“The County Government now has firefighting engines but I want to tell the director of disaster management to give residents guidelines on how they can be reached in case of a disaster,”said Owaka as quoted by Standard.
The traders asked the government to ensure they resume their operations after the fire.
Some of properties destroyed include; motorbikes, printing machines, mattresses, gas cylinders, photocopiers, and refrigerators among others.
The MCA urged the police to conduct speedy investigations, and arrest anyone found guilty of causing the fire.
“I call on the police to investigate and take legal action against the suspected arsonist,” he said.
