The 2022 Machakos gubernatorial race will be a battle of titans. It is expected to feature heavyweights from different political parties.
Former Kathiani Member of Parliament Wavinya Ndeti is seen as a front runner for the seat that is currently being held by Dr Alfre Mutua who completes his two terms in 2022.
Ndeti's win will, however, depend on a number of powerful politicians who will be supporting him.

Kalonzo Musyoka
The former Vice President is one of the influential politicians in Ukambani. He is a man many people have thrown their trust and believe to lead the Kamba politics to the next level. His party's dominance in Machakos will be a great help to Wavinya Ndeti's gubernatorial dream if given a party ticket.
Johnstone Muthama
Muthama is one of the powerful politicians from Ukambani. He is among the few leaders with the good number of followers in the county. If he does not contest for the seat, he is the best Wavinya Ndeti should approach to easier her win. The former Senator has been very vocal on matters of national interest
Benard Kiala
Kiala is the former Machakos deputy governor. He sought for the Wiper Party ticket to contest for the seat but lost to Ndeti in nominations. Kiala's support will be very crucial to Wavinya Ndeti’s bid in 2022.
