'Ingwe' have come out as the favorites to land former 'Batoto Ba Mungu' keeper Mathias Kigonya. The Ugandan skipper, who has three international caps for his country, parted ways with Sofapaka Football Club last week with a few months remaining on his contract.
He was Sofapaka's first-choice keeper since his move to the club in 2016 from Ugandan side, Bright Stars.
The 22-year-old goalkeeper confirmed in an interview that he had left Sofapaka owing to some 'issues’ and is now open to offers from clubs in Kenya and even abroad.
The former Bright Stars custodian has been with Batoto Ba Mungu from June 2016, when he joined the side during some serious financial challenges.
“It is true that I have left Sofapaka. It was on mutual agreement and now that I have six months remaining on my contract, the club has asked that I can leave if and when I get a new team,“ said Kigonya.
AFC Leopards, who are in the market for a keeper, are keen to sign the Ugandan, who scored a couple of goals for Sofapaka from the penalty spot last season.
Kigoya will miss a chance to bag his first and only silverware with Sofapaka when the 2009 Kenyan Premier League champions take on Kariobangi Sharks in the Sportpesa FKF Shield final on Saturday 20th October at the Moi International Sports Center, Kasarani.
