The bill which was unanimously passed by the County Assembly on Thursday last week will largely provide a legislative framework in the management of water across the county.

The bill is now expected to ease water challenges in the county, a thing that has for long been linked to poor services by the Garissa Water and Sewerage Company (GAWASCO).

Among the provisions of the bill include the creation of Water Users Association and related matters, establishment of Water and Sewerage Services Corporation to replace the defunct GAWASCO among others.

The adoption of the Water Bill now makes real a campaign pledge by Governor Korane, who during his campaigns prior to the 2017 gubernatorial elections, vowed to avail water services to locals across all sub-counties.

Just a week ago, Korane in his visit to Dadaab sub-county revealed of plans to drill at least 9 boreholes in his bid to make water services accessible to all.

"9 boreholes are proposed to be drilled in Dadaab Sub-County during this Financial Year. I reiterated that my administration has considered access to water for all the residents of Garissa County as the topmost priority during this Financial Year 2018/2019," Korane posted.
