Muranga Senator Irungu Kang'ata has hit out at a section of Governors over alleged misuse of public coffers at the concluded 6th Annual Devolution Conference.
The week-long event ended on Friday, with the Senator now claiming that some Governors used the function to have fun rather than engage in beneficial things.
He said that others abandoned their expected role of obtaining better ideas and making connections on behalf of their counties, instead of wasting the taxpayer's money.
"There are others who did not attend for beneficial purposes but to enjoy themselves using taxpayers' money.
They were never interested in what was going on but were instead there to enjoy the luxury the county has to offer," he said.
The lawmaker was speaking on Radio Citizen's Debe La Citizen Sunday evening.
He advised that such functions should be used to among others, create closer relationships between counties for better future cooperation.
He also saw no harm in the Ksh2 million that was set aside by each county to facilitate their leaders' attendance at the function, adding that the allocation is nothing compared to the opportunities the conference might bring.
"For governors who used the conference to make new friends on behalf of their counties and the ones who were attentive and willing to out what they learnt from others into use, then there is no problem with the allocation," he added.
The occasion was officially opened by President Uhuru Kenyatta and closed by his Deputy William Ruto.
