A 28-year-old Lucy Ongaga who hails from Kekogi in Marani Kisii county has confessed that she has managed to purchase one acre of land out of the prostitution, a business she began 3 years ago.
"I was introduced into the business by a friend after I completed my form four exams in 2015. My parents could not afford to pay my college fees and I had no option but to join," she said.
Lucy said she is not regretting being a prostitute since she has achieved a lot out of the business.
"In December, 24 in 2016, I met a man who hired me for sex. We negotiated and the man agreed to pay me Sh10,000 for one night. I agreed and went with him to a lodging. The following morning as I was preparing to leave the room, I spotted a small bag under the bed. I picked it up and found Sh200,000. I used the money to buy 1-acre of land at our rural home where my parents grew bananas and sugarcane," she said.
She said she is not ready to abandon the business since she is getting good money.
According to her, she makes Sh1000 in every night.
Lucy said at times police officers and members of the public harass them on grounds that they are HIV positive which is not true.
"We satisfy men in bed. We also need respect since married men abandon their wives in the houses and come for our services," she added.
