A tough-talking Deputy President William Ruto has hit out at certain politicians in the country ‘who do not accept election results’.
In a thinly veiled attack to Opposition leader Raila Odinga, Ruto said political problems in the country have been brought by politicians who do not accept election outcomes.
“I want to tell the people of Nakuru that we will not accept politics of divisions. Politics of people sharing power, if you are a politician and you are not a Democrat, quit politics,” Ruto said.
The DP was speaking in Elburgon, Molo constituency during a harambee drive on Saturday, August 11.
He added: “Politics and democracy are for Democrats. If you are not a Democrat, if you cannot accept the outcome of an election then you should not participate in any democratic election. It is only dictators and despots who only expect to win and not to lose.”
Raila has disputed 2007, 2013 and 2017 presidential election outcomes.
After the March 9 handshake with President Uhuru Kenyatta, the NASA principal said one of their agreements in the Building Bridges Initiative is to resolve issues surrounding election outcomes.
The DP, however, told off Raila saying that the only cure to post-election violence that accompanies Kenya’s election is certain politicians quit.
“Do not give us long lectures on elections and violence in an election. If you cannot accept results in a democratic election then you should not participate in any election,” Ruto said.
