Veteran politician Koigi wa Wamwere has hit out at ODM leader Raila Odinga accusing him of ‘being economical with the truth’.
Koigi was reacting to Raila’s remarks that he and President Uhuru Kenyatta are not sons of dynasties.
"There is no dynasty. Those people (their fathers) struggled on their own. Jomo Kenyatta was the son of a pauper; he struggled and was detained by colonialist for all those years. You cannot say there is a Kenyatta dynasty and because of that President Uhuru is part of one,” Raila said.
The opposition leader added: “Odinga, son of Raila, was just a pauper.
You would say he was just a hustler. You cannot, therefore, say that Raila is a product of a dynasty.”Koigi said Raila is being economical with the truth about their families.
“Odinga and Kenyatta families are ruling dynasties whose political successes are largely based on fame, popularity, wealth, history, ethnicity and opportunities available to ruling families. People follow members of ruling dynasties because they erroneously believe they have a divine, inborn, inherited and ethnically ordained entitlement to rule and be in power,” Koigi said.
The harsh critic of the Jubilee government told Raila to speak the ‘truth’.
“To claim that Raila and Kenyatta have not benefited from the wealth and history of their parents is to be economical with truth. Nevertheless, Kenyatta and Jaramogi families are not the only family dynasties that enjoy political advantages over their economically disabled poor competitors,” he said.
