A section of women in Nyamira County have blamed male MPs for failing to pass the two-thirds gender rule bill, Wednesday.
The women, mainly traders at Keroka township led by Eunice Bonareri, claimed that male MPs fear women.
"Male MPs are to blame for the failed two thirds gender rule bill. It seems male MPs are scared passing the bill since women in leadership are always transparent hence they won't be able to embezzle funds as they are doing now," said Bonareri.
Ms Bonareri challenged women elected leaders not to lose hope but, continue pushing for the two thirds gender rule bill to pass.
"I'm appealing to women in Parliament not to lose hope after the bill backfired on Wednesday. Let them continue pushing to ensure the bill sails through," she added.
Evelyn Nyanchera dismissed claims that more women in Parliament will be a burden to Kenyans.
"There is need to have balance in leadership. Women are also human beings who should take up leadership roles," she stated.
Nyanchera challenged President Uhuru Kenyatta to intervene for the two thirds gender rule bill to sail through.
MPs for the second time in as many months failed to pass the gender bil, further subjecting parliament to a precarious position due to constitutional dictates.
