Kericho county senator Aaron Cheruiyot on Tuesday bashed NTV's political reporter Kennedy Muriithi accusing him of misreporting issues about Kenyatta austerity measures.
Cheruiyot who spoke during a morning show stated that the reporter had failed to be objective in reporting the constitution amendment bill 2019 sponsored by Jeremiah Kioni, Ndaragwa MP.
The senator went ahead to threaten to team up with other lawmakers in ensuring the reporter is barred from parliament and stripped of privileges.
"Kennedy Murithi is my friend but I have told him that very soon we will consider as parliament withdrawing history of parliamentary privileges because as a reporter he owes it to Kenyans to be factual in the reporting and to understand his job," said Cheruiyot.
The reporter on Monday had said that Ndaragwa MP Jeremiah Kioni had formulated a bill meant to lock out scrutiny of money allocated to parliament.
Cheruiyot said the reporter should have sought the comments of Jeremiah Kioni about the bill.
He went ahead to intimate that it's not the first time the reporter was misreporting parliament issues and he had warned him severally.
"To the best of my knowledge, that report is too amateur and smirks of ill-will. Its not the first time Kennedy Muriithi is misreporting about parliament. I've seen this countless occasions and this time I called him out," he said.
Former Kakamega senator Boni Khalwale, however, was fast to cool down the agitated senator by reminding him about the press freedom.
"As you enjoy your high status please respect our constitution that allows the media all the freedom they have to do up and including investigative journalism," said Khalwale.
"Honestly he is not talking about your salary he's talking about public funds in parliament which the mp wants to remove from oversight. He is not being harsh to you guys," he added.
