In a tweet on Wednesday, Etale asked DP Ruto to go home with President Uhuru Kenyatta when that time comes. Etale argued that if Uhuru has failed then there is no chance that his deputy has succeeded.

“If Uhuru has failed, then his Deputy has also failed. They should pack and go home together in 2022,“ he tweeted.

Speaking during the burial of Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua's mother Martha Kirigo, Ruto said he is certain that the President has no intentions of being in power after the end of his second term. He faulted political brokers for the claims that Kenyatta will still remain in power after 2022.

"It is brokers and political merchants who are peddling that rumour across the country,” the Deputy President said.

Ruto also said that he has no problem with the implementation of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) but is only ready to support it if it addresses the needs of all Kenyans. He said that BBI should be crafted in a manner in which the constitution was adopted.

"The constitution was for all Kenyans, and as such, any changes made in it would be informed by their needs," he said.
