Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru was dragged into the messy divorce case involving Marianne Kitany and Meru Senator Mithika Linturi by city lawyer Donald B. Kipkorir.
The controversial lawyer had alleged on Wednesday that the Governor had instructed him to demand a third of the couple's property for facilitating their union.
“On instructions from @AnneWaiguru, we place on notice Mithika Linturi and Marianne Kitany that as my client’s matter ignited their romance leading to marriage, our client shall claim 1/3 of their matrimonial property. Be guided appropriately,” Mr Kipkorir said on Wednesday via Twitter.
However, Waiguru's communications representative has dismissed Korir's allegations. On Wednesday, the rep told K24 Digital that Waiguru has not issued such a directive.
“Kipkorir is not madam’s lawyer, and she hasn’t asked him to make such an application. When I showed the governor that tweet, she just laughed and said that, maybe, the lawyer is just joking, or seeking virality. However, I can confirm that Ms Mumbi hasn’t made such a request,” said the governor’s communications rep said as quited by K24.
The case has witnessed the revelation of family secrets including gifts exchanged when the relationship was still blossoming.
“He told my mother that she could use the vehicle to go shopping, fetch water from the river and run errands because her daughter would no longer be available to do the job,” she said, as quoted by Daily Nation.
