In this life, all of us are bound to make mistakes every now and then either as an individual or a group.
Even the Bible acknowledges this reality where it states, 'if we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us'. (1 John 1:8). Accepting our sins and going ahead to repent them is the way to go.
In the same spirit popular Kikuyu radio station, Kameme FM, should own up to its 'sins' in regards to the Gakuyo-Ekeza Sacco scam and go ahead and issue a public apology to all the swindled Ekeza Sacco members.
This move may not do much to mitigate the pain that these members have at the moment, but it can be a good gesture to hear and see the station acknowledging its faults and apologizing for it.
But why apologize?
1. Its credibility is at stake
Kameme FM was more than any other station in Kenya used by the rogue Bishop David Ngari alias Gakuyo as a fishing net to almost bring on board all the defrauded members.
If you ask many of them where they heard the information about Gakuyo Real Estate or Ekeza Sacco before taking their hard-earned cash there, they will tell you 'ndaiguire Kameme-ini' (I heard it on Kameme).
As such, failure by Kameme FM to issue a public apology acknowledging that it erred and that it did or did not know the bishop was fraudster, it will continue to be perceived as a source of misinformation as well as a fraudulent conspirator.
2. It allowed its business interests to supersede one of its main roles as a broadcaster; providing credible information
Kameme FM just like any other station anywhere around the world, should never be a source of misleading information.
Not when such information turns out to be as scandalous as the one the Mediamax Network-owned radio station spent months propagating on the airwaves.
For this reason, it should have apologized like yesterday.
3. It pocketed millions of shillings in terms of advertising revenues from Gakuyo
Gakuyo undoubtedly spent millions of shillings at Kameme FM to spread his con messages that has brought us to where we are today.
Take it or leave it, this reality makes Kameme FM a beneficiary of Gakuyo's fraud, the reason it should apologize more.
