Governor Ngilu's election victory upheld
Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu's 2017 election victory has been upheld by the Court of Appeal.
The court dismissed an appeal lodged by former Governor Julius Malombe.
In a ruling on Thursday, the appellate court said Malombe failed to prove claims of irregularities in the gubernatorial election.
"The petitioner (Malombe) has failed to prove his claims and this court, therefore, dismisses the appeal and upholds the ruling by the High Court," Justice John Mativo said.
Mativo read the ruling on behalf of Lady Justice Pauline Nyamweya.
Malombe had filed an appeal after the High Court upheld Ngilu's victory.
Malombe in his appeal claimed that the High Court disregarded his evidence.
The governor had claimed that Ngilu had intimidated his agents in some polling stations.
The High Court had slapped Malombe with Sh6 million fine as a cost for the petition.
